My Journal
By Harriman Nelson
27

It’s been three days since my last entry, as I’ve been too busy for it, both with the continued search for Lee and his captors, and long video phone sessions with the upper echelons of the pentagon and NATO alliance.
Only a few minutes ago, I was informed that due to the fact that there had not been one shred of new evidence regarding the ‘mastermind’ of the image, that U.S. and NATO search teams have been withdrawn.
I called the president to complain. He was sympathetic but had been advised that the U.S. and NATO could no longer use federal and international fund to search for a man who was not on active duty at the time of his disappearance, and was most likely dead at the hands of his captors.
Furious, I told the president of the United States where to go and geared myself for a solid tongue lashing and even military action regarding my insubordination as a reservist.
Instead, Avery allowed for ONI to work with us. But that was all. And secrecy about the kelpie’s true nature was to continue to be secret. As far as the public was concerned, Loch Ness had a new monster. A man eating monster.

ONI can only do so much, and it’s difficult to remain optimistic that we’ll ever see Lee again, let alone rescue him.
And I have another problem. A document on my desk taunts me. Waiting for my signature. Once signed, Lee will be legally dead. Soon, I may have no choice but to declare him so countless lives can carry on.
God help me.
